12-Inch Car Subwoofer
I often see people ask why do I need a 12-inch car subwoofer? Well, maybe because you want some serious bass! One of the most critical attributes of subwoofers that determine their level of performance is their size. When you step up to a 12-inch subwoofer, you are upgrading in more ways than one. Not only the piston area or SD, but larger subs can handle more power. They play louder. They are boomier. Some people even find that they sound better. I am not 100% sure about that, but if you have the space, power, and budget for a 12-inch subwoofer, go for it! However, know that If you’re looking for the sub that will deliver maximum SPL, you need to consider sensitivity, enclosure type, and available power. Simply going with a larger drive does not necessarily mean louder, harder-hitting bass! That is the reason why I often recommend that for your first system, triple eights or tens and as you grow out of that, step up to a 12-inch subwoofer. The main reason is that there is little to upgrade from there!
