Car Audio System Upgrades

Most of us spend a lot of time in our cars. Unless you are new to this town you know that traffic in Miami is not what it used to be. It now takes at least a half hour to get anywhere. So, if you are spending a lot of time in your vehicle, why not enjoy it! Enjoy a good sounding car stereo system does not have to be expensive and or complicated. Unlike in the past cars nowadays come right out of the factory with pretty decent head units. However, power and quality of speakers are still lacking. That is of course unless you upgrade to a premium sound system, and that my friend can cost two or three times what a better sounding aftermarket unit cost.

Unlike many other car stereo shops in Miami, at Thunder Electronics, we have no issue working with a factory head unit. Unless of course, it is lacking the features you desire. For example, in many instances, we are able to design a system where we incorporate a five channel amplifies capable of high level imputes, and with sufficient power to drive a set of component in the front, new coaxial speakers in the rear and your choice of subwoofer configuration. All of this can be accomplished without cutting any wires and delivering a system with two to three times the performance and half the cost of your average OEM premium sound system.

While many worry about how their dash will look with a different head unit, many are committed to not letting anything stand in the way of the performance of their sound system. The truth be told Metra, Scosche and some of the other aftermarket dash kit manufacture are now making adapter kits and harnesses that make aftermarket car stereo installation aesthetically, please. But more important are things like speaker location and other factors are often of greater concern than the illumination color of the aftermarket head unit.

In many cases getting a car stereo system to sound right requires creative fabrication skills and expertise in choosing across a range of brands and products. At Thunder Electronics we know audio and often compete in local and national car audio competitions. It is this experience the one many big box sales people lack. We often find that many of them still have factory radios and speakers in their cars but yet they pretend to give you sound advice on what you should get for your car and what you shouldn’t! If you talk to 100 people who are into car audio and ask them, what is a great car stereo system supposed to sound like? You will probably get 100 different answers. The truth is that what we call or label great, good, or bad for that matter has a lot to do with our taste. When it comes to music, you take that to an entirely new level. More often than not what we consider as good sounding, bad sounding or indifferent is founded on what we have heard.

In general, what we label as good or better is limited to what we have experience. You may think that a Honda Civic is the best car in the world until your drive a BMW or a Mercedes. Talking about BMW and Mercedes, a lot of people think BMW is something to write home about, I am sorry, but I am a Mercedes type of guy, as they say, “the best or nothing” in my case is a Chevy truck.

Recently I have been communicating online with a couple of support guys over at Car Audio Near Me, an online car stereo store offering a very nice selection of products. The guy was explaining that when it comes to judging the quality of a car stereo system, it’s hard to blame someone if they just have not experienced any better. He went on to explain that many years ago when he started competing, he entered an ISACA National event in Daytona Beach, Florida with confidence that they had the best car in the class. Nevertheless, he was outscored in sound quality by a bunch. After throwing a tantrum, he was invited by event coordinators t listen to the car. After doing so, he realized how crappy his car sounded!

That makes a lot of sense. I guess what youngsters need to do is listen to a better audio system. That on its own is a challenge. In this day and age of multi-channel everything and thundering headphones you rarely see any high-end audio systems anymore. It has been a while since I have walked into an electronics store and found a dedicated “stereo” sound room.

Have you seen the junk they have at Best Buy, nowadays? Where can you find B&W 801 or Martin Logan’s playing from a class A amp? I guess the difference between Car Audio Fanatics vs. Car Audio Enthusiast is that we know crap when we hear it!
